HENDERSON, NV — The City of Henderson told its police captains they should be excluded from unionizing, according to a letter obtained by 8 News Now. In response, union leaders filed a petition to a state board in a push for recognition.
In an effort to push the city to recognize a formed police union, on Friday the Henderson Police Captains Association (HPCA) and the Nevada Association of Public Safety Officers (NAPSO) filed a petition to the Nevada Department of Business and Industry Government Employee Management Relations Board (EMRB).
The HPCA, which is comprised of all seven Henderson police captains, wrote the union wants to join its patrol officers and other supervisory leaders in creating their own union. However, a letter, signed by Henderson’s police chief and human resources director, forewarned of a negative impact on the police force.
