HENDERSON, NV — In 2022, two Henderson police officers stood watch at a crime scene while grumbling about a labor shortage. Four years later, the complaint appeared distant to the police chief as the department touts a “near-zero” vacancy rate.
The Henderson Police Department revealed training had begun for the city’s largest-ever police academy at the Inspirada Station on Monday. The 56 academy recruits were jogged around the property as Police Chief Reggie Rader discussed the end of the multi-year labor shortage.
“A big challenge for policing on the national stage is about a 10% vacancy rate,” Rader said. “We’re very excited to say here at the City of Henderson, when these recruits get through, we’re going to be at a 0% vacancy.”
