Lawrence, KS — Leaders of Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical say they’re now stretched to the limit for the emergency medical services they provide.
EMS Director John Darling gave a presentation to Douglas County leaders recently. It showed how, in a matter of a little over half an hour on April 17, all seven staffed ambulances for his agency went from being available to having them all in service.
It’s called “status zero,” meaning no ambulances were available.
A series of 911 calls on Friday, including a serious motor vehicle accident, led to another status zero problem.
It meant Darling had to call in off-duty firefighters to staff two additional ambulances.
