Firefighters are five times more likely to die by suicide than fighting a house fire.
That is according to Lt. Justin Twaddle with the Quincy Fire Department. He said it is often because of trauma sustained on the job.
“Any time we respond in an incident where it’s particularly traumatic, especially if kids are involved or an incident where someone has been abused in a horrible way, that leaves a mark. It leaves an imprint,” Twaddle said.
