Future Knoxville Police Department recruits will have starting salaries $10,000 higher than the current rate.
Officers’ annual starting pay is increasing under the city’s new budget to $56,000 instead of the current $46,424. This makes KPD higher-paid than starting Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputies, who received a large pay increase last year. Sheriff Tom Spangler earlier this month asked for another increase in deputies’ pay to match KPD but was unsuccessful.
