Midwestern State University
Midwestern State University has designed the law enforcement for students are able to utilize the law enforcement tuition exemption: https://msutexas.edu/academics/education/baas/law-enforcement-tuition-exemption-hr-2347.php. It covers tuition specifically for Criminal Justice classes. Students are only responsible for the associated fees. Any of your currently employed peace officer members are welcome to pursue their degree through us and take advantage of this exemption.
Since the exemption doesn’t cover core curriculum classes, I typically recommend that my law enforcement students take their core curriculum work through a local community college and then concentrate on their Criminal Justice hours with us to finish up. This is often the most cost and time efficient way to go about degree completion. Of course, if students prefer to take their core work with us as well, that is absolutely fine. I do my best to work with everyone to find the best way of moving forward.
Before peace officers apply to the university, they are welcome to contact me beforehand. If they provide me with copies of their college transcripts and TCOLE report (specifically the status report pages that show certifications and employment history), I can get put together a degree plan provide them with an idea of where they are and what they need to finish up and we can figure out a plan of action from there. Unofficial copies of college transcripts are just fine for my purposes.
I hope this is helpful. Please let me know of any and all questions that you may have. I’m happy to help in any way that I can.
Thanks again and have a great rest of your week!
