Officer Victor Serna was shot and killed on September 12, 1984 after responding to a disturbance call. After officers arrested two suspects a juvenile began throwing rocks at the officers. As Officer Serna entered the yard where the juvenile was throwing rocks from another man shot and killed Officer Serna with a shotgun.

Officer Serna had been with the agency for three years and was survived by his wife.
